I learned a lot about how understanding simple shapes play into complex ones and that the proficiency in this saves a lot of trouble when trying stuff out of my league such as this.  Lot of mistakes but I think I caught the main idea well, messed up the proportions as you can tell with the hair in the bottom right panel where I started on the viewer's left of his head and went straight up instead of in an arc so I made it somewhat better by starting on the viewer's right of his head and working it in to make it smoother.

Also my messup on that larger than needed strand of hair more or less blocked out his eye, I had a few instances where I messed up like this and had to guess where it would lie due to my mistake, which was fun in and of itself and I think I did alright, I'm aware for the eyebrow and eye that changes the shading somewhat but didn't feel like guessing that part.
